A FERRARI 288 GTO WORTH MORE THAN 2 MILLION DOLLARS WAS STOLEN
German police are looking for a man who stole a rare Ferrari worth more than 2 million euros during a test drive. The suspect contacted a collector car dealer and expressed interest in buying a Ferrari 288 GTO from 1985. He also organized a test drive to get to know the car better, Dusseldorf police said.When the seller got out of the car to change drivers, the potential buyer sped up and left. Police say the historic car, first registered in 1985, is valued at more than 2 million euros.
Peter Haynes, a spokesman for RM Sotheby's auction house, said such a model is currently priced between $ 2.5 million and $ 3.5 million. In January, the auction house sold another Ferrari 288 GTO for $ 3.3 million. The Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper reported that the stolen car belonged to former Formula 1 driver Eddie Irwin.The car was eventually found hidden in a garage in the town of Grevenbroch, about 28 km southwest of Dusseldorf on Tuesday evening, but police are still searching for the suspect.
